Seg\u00fan un estudio de Greenpeace, el 50% del contenido de alquitr\u00e1n del cigarro se queda en los filtros, que en el medio ambiente generan sustancias cancer\u00edgenas.<\/p>

En Espa\u00f1a, se ha puesto en marcha un sistema para reutilizar las colillas como abono natural para la agricultura.<\/p>

Millones de colillas de cigarros se esparcen por las aceras o, peor a\u00fan, por parques y playas. Esos escuetos filtros, de apariencia inocua, son un residuo contaminante porque est\u00e1n formados de acetato de celulosa, derivados del petr\u00f3leo, no biodegradables, y pueden tardar a\u00f1os en descomponerse.<\/p>

Sus efectos han sido estudiados principalmente sobre la salud humana, sin embargo, no es menos perjudicial para el medio ambiente, porque tambi\u00e9n las colillas contienen toxinas peligrosas, despu\u00e9s de haber sido utilizadas.<\/p>

La mayor\u00eda de los filtros est\u00e1n hechos de un pl\u00e1stico, acetato de celulosa. Las fibras elaboradas de este pl\u00e1stico son m\u00e1s delgadas que el hilo y se aprietan firmemente para formar el filtro que a menudo parece algod\u00f3n.<\/p>

Seg\u00fan la investigadora del Instituto Nacional de Toxicolog\u00eda de Madrid, Carmen Larrocha \u00abse ha demostrado que, en caso de su ingesti\u00f3n, los filtros por s\u00ed solos no son t\u00f3xicos para la salud humana\u00bb.<\/p>

La producci\u00f3n de un filtro de cigarrillo tarda meses, requiere mucha mano de obra, aunque en cinco minutos se fuma el cigarro y se tira la colilla. Pero su carga de residuos permanece durante muchos a\u00f1os en el agua y genera alfombras de deshechos en los oc\u00e9anos del mundo.<\/p>

En un estudio realizado por Greenpeace y publicado en ‘Greenpeace Magazine, de Alemania, el jefe de an\u00e1lisis qu\u00edmico inorg\u00e1nico del Instituto de Qu\u00edmica y Biolog\u00eda de la Marina, de la Universidad de Oldenburg, Bernhard Schnetger, se\u00f1ala que \u00abhasta el momento hay poca evidencia sobre la cantidad exacta de toxinas y metales pesados que pasan a trav\u00e9s del filtro del cigarrillo al mar\u00bb.<\/p>

Seg\u00fan el estudio, alrededor del 50% del contenido de alquitr\u00e1n del cigarro permanece en los filtros, que en el medio ambiente generan sustancias cancer\u00edgenas, como hidrocarburos, nicotina, ars\u00e9nico y metales pesados. Estas sustancias van a parar al mar, donde \u00abterminan potencialmente como un filete de at\u00fan en nuestros platos\u00bb.<\/p>

Los cigarrillos y sus filtros tambi\u00e9n forman parte de la basura de las playas y costas mundiales y, actualmente, seg\u00fan un informe de la ONU sobre Lucha Antitab\u00e1quica, publicado en 2010, cada a\u00f1o se arrojan en todo el planeta 5 billones de colillas, que acaban en los mares y r\u00edos, y a\u00f1ade que \u00abuna colilla de cigarro contamina hasta 50 litros de agua\u00bb.<\/p>

En San Diego University (EE.UU) se realiz\u00f3 en 2009 un experimento con pulgas de agua, donde el 100% de estos animales murieron al cabo de 48 horas despu\u00e9s de que fueran expuestos a una concentraci\u00f3n de dos filtros de cigarrillos por litro de agua.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
